The HND degree program is intended to give students the knowledge, comprehension, abilities, and skills they need to successfully transition back into the workforce or to continue their education as a third-year graduate of a UK university degree program. However, some students fully dedicate themselves to their subject of study as professionals in the arts after successfully finishing the degree program.

2 or 3 years of full-time study / possibility of part-time study. Part time attendance: Flexibility in total hours each week. Usually students study for as long as is required for each one individually, depending on the effort and time devoted to the study program. The offer of a place on the Higher National Diploma depends mainly on the candidate's previous relevant education and experience, including the portfolio.

HND in Fine Art

By the end of the 2 years students will have knowledge and understanding of:
• Contexts and issues relating to the professional practice of Fine Art.

HND in Fashion & Textiles

Textiles design & art:
With emphasis on teaching technical and practical nature of the course, the general objective of this course is to equip students with practical skills, which can be applied in a more artistic work or in more industry based project. Giving students another means of creating, allows them to expand further their artistic language and implement creative results. Students will be taught specialised professional techniques used in todays creative textile industries and also will be introduced to various traditional techniques such as: sewing, hand stitching, embroidery, beading, appliqué, patchwork, quilting, crochet, knitting, weaving, fabric painting and printing with screen printing, dying: batique, tie-dye, etc. and mixed techniques.

Learning environment:
The practices and techniques taught and applied within a visual framework will give a new dynamic to their aesthetics and in the process of creating, opening new doors to exploration, experimentation and implementation to create various artistic effects. The aims of the course are for the students to broaden their practical skills and apply the techniques taught as future professionals or if they chose to continue their studies in a university degree level.

The studio:
The fashion and textiles facility aims to provide the students with the experience of a professional studio in terms of equipment and operation. It is equipped with industrial sawing machines, industrial over locker, weaving machine, a professional workstation, tailor’s dummies, garment rails and is well equipped with all tools and resources necessary for textiles design and fashion design and making. Students will be trained to operate all the machines concerning their specialization, in order to be prepared for their future as professionals in fashion and textiles design, as well as for further studies.

 

HND in Photography

Over the course of study, students are expected to concentrate on a number of different elements of photography. Some of these include: studio photography, location photography, photojournalism, digital postproduction, creative image production and manipulation, how photography can become an artwork, its relation to other disciplines of art & design. The broad variety of available units will help you discover which area of photography you are particularly passionate about.

Modules

HND in Fine Art

This creative course combines both traditional and contemporary approaches to fine art with an emphasis on the multidimensional approach, on which if desired students can work through a range of different media and approaches. Students will explore Fine Art practice through a variety of assignments, site-specific location projects, work-based experience, lectures, opportunities for showing and exhibiting own work. These assignments encourage a professional approach and explore a wide range of visual language across both 2D and 3D specialist areas.

Within the context of the course, the students will be taught of the importance of research, how to produce and invent ideas and how to develop and express their personal visions, through a multidimensional approach to Fine Art. They will experiment with ideas and products such as images, objects, and techniques.

Once the students manage to distinguish, understand and realize all that are involved in Fine Art, the aim then would be to experiment with specific procedures and materials in order to understand their own personal visual language. Through studio-based learning, which is the most efficient art and design teaching method, students will develop their skills and their ability to research, experiment and generate creative ideas and results. The development of the students will be on going throughout the two years of the course and the teaching will be continuous and focused on the individual needs.

 

HND in Fashion & Textiles

HND in Fashion & Textiles is an exciting programme of specialist vocational learning, which reflects the requirement of professional organisations and meets the National Occupational Standards for each sector or industry. With their strong emphasis on developing practical skills alongside specialist knowledge and understanding for the sector, HND in Fashion & Textiles is recognised internationally by employers as providing learners with the key concepts and practical skills for direct progression to – or within – employment. Learners have the opportunity to master the essential techniques of their craft and develop their higher-level skills in Fashion and Textiles. The skills for success: broaden students’ experience and depth of knowledge, allowing them to develop a range of skills, techniques and attributes essential for successful performance in working life.

 

HND in Photography

The Higher National Diploma in Photography at Aigaia School of Art and Design have been developed to focus on:
• Educating and training the students for a range of careers in photography.
• Providing opportunities for students to gain a specific qualification that will enable them to enter employment in photography if they wish or progress to a full-time degree in photography or related areas.
• Developing the students’ knowledge, understanding and skills in the field of photography.
• Providing opportunities for developing a range of skills and techniques and attributes essential for successful performance in working life.
• Developing learners’ critical awareness and their ability to research and synthesise complex information regarding the specific specialisation.
• Developing students skills in communication and presentation their work and ideas.

 

Assessment Method

Continuous assessment throughout each course, end of semester evaluation, and evaluation at the end of the entire program of study, written and / or verbal, evaluation through presentations, tutorials and discus- sions. Aigaia School of Art teaching is primarily based on a practical and studio-based learning methodology.

Being as such, at the end of semester assessments for the practical courses, students are not graded but evaluated against specific assessment criteria applicable to each course. All criteria must be fully fulfilled otherwise the students are referred for resubmission.

The Final Major project at the end of semester 4 is graded: For the assessment of the final major project and hence for the successful completion of the program of study at the end of the 2nd year (or at the end of the 4th semester), students are graded with Pass, Merit or Distinction. Only the theoretical courses are graded at semesters 1,2 & 3.

All students are required to attend all evaluations/ assessments.

All credits achieved are equivalent to ECTS. For the successful completion of the two-year course, each student needs to achieve 120 ECTS.

Students may continue their studies in the final year of the degree at British institutions after completing the Higher National Diploma (HND) at the Aegean School successfully in any specialization. The most crucial factor is how the job was evaluated.

For the registration students have to present the following:

• Completion and submission of the application form including a signed declaration by parents or any other person responsible for the payment of the student’s tuition fees.
• Certified copy of secondary education certificate (Lyceum or equivalent institution)
• Birth certificate
• Payment of the appropriate registration fee.

Qualification requirements

Students are offered a place after the examination of their application and presentation of their portfolio of artwork.

Each candidate must be a graduate from secondary education or a graduate of an equivalent educational institution. They should be able to present their portfolio in a personal interview that demonstrates the inclination, interest and experience in the areas of fine and/or applied arts. This is the main and most important admission requirement. This is also for deter- mining the level of each prospective student.

Additional entry requirements

All candidates are evaluated separately by the Admissions Committee where a decision is made.

English language requirements

Success in IGCSE, IELTS or TOEFL English language examinations, is a prerequisite for admission of students to courses taught in English. For studying courses taught in Greek, by foreign students, it is necessary to hold a title for such examination in the Greek Language, or attendance for at least one year in a Greek-speaking school and/or attendance to Greek-language courses.

Fees and funding

Application Fees

Registration: €500
The registration fee is payable with the acceptance of a place on the course.
Yearly fees: €6500
The above amount is for full-time studies.
• The payment terms are agreed on a personal basis with the students and their parents.
• Part-time tuition fees will be calculated according to each student’s attendance and will be paid monthly.

10% discount on tuition fees:

– To students with Cypriot nationality, from large families with at least 4 children
– To students part of the same family, regardless of nationality
– To students who are a legally married couple, regardless of nationality – In any other case, the school decides necessary.

Additional Fee information

Aigaia School of Art and Design has decided to establish a scholarship program, in memory of the honorary Director of the Academic Staff of Aigaia school of art & design, Dr Costas Hadjistefanou. The scholarship consists of the full coverage of the fees and is provided for one academic year, with the possibility of renewing for the following years of study. The scholarship is offered only to Greek Cypriots, students of Aigaia School, under strict academic and socio-economic criteria.

His contribution to Education and Culture and generally to our society in Cyprus is invaluable. Profoundly knowledgeable of the Greek language, Culture and Education, he devoted his life to it. His ongoing purpose was to establish the Greek language and Education in Cyprus, offering himself completely and truly, with unlimited time and effort, educating and cultivating the new generation, offering knowledge from his rich spiritual world. In this context and spirit, Costas Hadjistefanou supported the efforts and contributed actively to the creation of Aigaia School of Art and Design based on a solid pedagogical and healthy academic basis.
