Aims of the Programme:
The Programme aims to give students the opportunity to be acquainted with the care and education of pre-school age children and with the Science of Education. They will acquire the necessary practical skills, so that to bridge theory with practice, in order to perform successfully their duties and responsibilities as educators of pre-school children. The qualifications they will acquire must give them the opportunity to continue their studies for a University Degree.

Programme Objectives:

Students who attend the Programme of Nursery Education will have the opportunity to:

  • Become familiar with the environment of a nursery establishment, and understand its organization and function.
  • Acquire the necessary theory and develop the appropriate practical skills in order to take care of infants and children of nursery schools.
  • Develop their skills in organizing, administrating, and teaching in nursery schools.
  • Learn how the biophysical, mental and psychosocial characteristics of children are developed and use their knowledge to help children in their global development.
  • Understand and put into practice the pedagogical, psychological and social principles while they come in contact with children of pre-school age.
  • Develop their skills in expressive arts (art, music, physical education, drama, literature) and use them during their work with pre-school children, taking into consideration their maturity stage.
  • Examine critically and analyze the results of their own and others` research works, regarding the fundamental characteristics of the educational process, especially those affecting the institutions of pre-school education and be in the position to apply them, whenever they feel it necessary.
  • Possess the knowledge and skills of oral, written and technological communication, so as to communicate and co-operate efficiently with their peers, children, parents, and others.
  • Communicate effectively (orally and written) in English language.
  • Organize activities which will help children to acquire mathematical concepts and experiences from natural sciences, and cultivate their problem solving thinking and their initiative.
  • Handle successfully not only routine problems in the pre-school institution, but also to solve any problems arising in their working environment.
  • Develop the necessary administrative and organizational abilities in order to organize and manage a nursery school successfully.
  • Be able to continue their studies in other higher educational institutions for obtaining a University degree.

  • Can be employed in public nursery centers of the Department of Social Welfare Services (Ministry of Labour and Social Insurances).
  • Can be employed in private nursery schools.
  • Establish their own nursery center/school.
  • Continue their studies at Frederick University for a degree in Pre-Primary Education.
  • Continue their studies, in other Universities to get a degree.

Application deadline

Frederick Institute of Technology academic year consists of the fall and spring semesters. The FIT calendar is arranged so that students may start classes either during the last week of September or the first week of February. Candidates may submit an application for admission to any of the semesters. Due to the fact that formalities for the issue of an entry visa take at least six weeks, candidates from other countries are urged to file an application at least eight weeks prior to the expected date of enrolment. Students are expected to be on campus prior to the beginning of the intended semester. In response to arising need, courses could be provided within the summer period.
