Program’s purpose and objectives:

The program is designed to accept high school graduates who after their successful and comprehensive training will be able to provide effective emergency and pre-hospital care, under the guidance of the Head of the Ambulance Services or medical or nursing ambulance crew, to people of all ages in the community and in the hospital. The program aims to provide knowledge, develop skills and critical thinking for immediate emergency and pre-hospital care and safe transportation to a proper health formation, in accordance with the standards, guidelines instructions and applicable legislation.

Intended learning outcomes:

With the completion of the program, students are expected to:

  • Acquire the necessary knowledge and skills in the field of emergency and pre-hospital care.
  • Apply the theory in situations of emergency health care.
  • Communicate and interact effectively in crisis situations with patients, families and health professionals.
  • Evaluate patients by applying theory and skills, in accordance with the standards, guidelines and legislation.
  • Develop critical thinking and best practices in dealing with health emergencies.
  • Implement effective interventions in addressing urgent health problems, in accordance with the standards, guidelines and legislation.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the interventions and adapt them for the best patient care.
  • Apply patient management strategies and safe transport to the proper health formation.
  • Ensure the safety of the patient, its affiliates and the personnel while driving the ambulance.
  • Maintain the operational safety and readiness of the ambulance and its equipment.
  • Recognize the professional, ethical and legal responsibilities in the pursuit of the profession.

Application deadline

Frederick Institute of Technology academic year consists of the fall and spring semesters. The FIT calendar is arranged so that students may start classes either during the last week of September or the first week of February. Candidates may submit an application for admission to any of the semesters. Due to the fact that formalities for the issue of an entry visa take at least six weeks, candidates from other countries are urged to file an application at least eight weeks prior to the expected date of enrolment. Students are expected to be on campus prior to the beginning of the intended semester. In response to arising need, courses could be provided within the summer period.

Additional entry requirements

In addition to the general admission criteria of Frederick Institute of Technology, prospective students must submit the following before joining the program:

  • Health Certificate obtained by a public hospital / physician (Good Physical and Mental Health, Absence of Infectious Disease, Absence of Epilepsy, Absence of Sensory or Motor Deficiencies).
  • Tuberculosis Test (Mantoux test) with negative result.
  • Certificate of proper Vaccination Coverage (MMR, Hep B, DTP) or Antibody Examination.

Notes:

All supporting documents / certificates must be submitted by the candidates to the College's admission office and then checked by the Program Coordinator, who signs a special admission form for each candidate.

Candidates must submit the health certificate before enrolment in the program.

Tuberculosis tests and vaccination certificates must be submitted between 4 months after the enrolment in the program (4 month period it’s given to candidates in case a booster vaccination dose is needed).

If the candidate does not provide the necessary proof of vaccination coverage, the candidate will not be able to carry out his / her clinical training in the 3rd and 4th semesters, thus extending the duration of his / her studies.
