Course Summary

Studying on the BTEC Foundation Diploma in Art, Design & Media at Aigaia School enables students to take an informed decision and provide them with the necessary knowledge and experiences in their chosen discipline before they apply for a Bachelor’s degree. It will be a chance to learn all about the fine and applied arts disciplines and understand the differences during their studies but also later on as a professional in the chosen area.

All students – with the guidance of a specialised tutor – will complete at least one project in each different discipline in art & design, in order to understand its context and its career and employment prospects.

During the first part of the course, students are introduced to the following disciplines:

Fine Art: painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, ceramics, multidimensional approach to fine art.

Applied Arts: graphic arts, illustration, interior design, fashion design, textile design, jewellery design, product design, theatre & costume design, animation, architecture.

The Foundation course in general art & design also includes subjects on history of art and life drawing. The result of the foundation course will be an extensive portfolio of artwork and places at Bachelor degree courses in Universities abroad.

 

Career Prospects

Course content:

The first stage of the course is an exploratory program designed to increase students’ visual understanding across a range of media. Students work on a variety of projects covering all the creative arts disciplines. This part of the course is intensive and exciting. Students gain experience of potential pathway areas, since most of the tutors are practicing artists and designers. During the second stage of the course, the students will select the chosen pathway of future specialisation. They will then explore and experiment within their chosen pathways in greater detail and complete their portfolio of artwork in order to claim places in foreign universities. During the third stage of the course, students will propose in writing and direct their own personal project applying the knowledge and skills acquired during the course. The final major project will be presented and assessed in an exhibition with which the Foundation Diploma is completed.

Modules

The academic year is divided in three stages:

Stage 1: Exploration stage: September – January
Stage 2: Pathway stage: January – March
Stage 3: Confirmatory stage: April – June

 

Assessment Method

Continuous assessment throughout each course, end of semester evaluation, and evaluation at the end of the entire program of study, written and / or verbal, evaluation through presentations, tutorials and discus- sions. Aigaia School of Art teaching is primarily based on a practical and studio-based learning methodology.

Being as such, at the end of semester assessments for the practical courses, students are not graded but evaluated against specific assessment criteria applicable to each course. All criteria must be fully fulfilled otherwise the students are referred for resubmission.

Qualification requirements

Registrations: from 16 years old

Duration of studies:
1. One year full time for students that are secondary education graduates.

ή 2. Two or more years of afternoon tuition, for lyceum students aged 16 years and above. Minimum attendance 2-3 times per week.

ή 3. Exceptions may be considered only for candidates with exceptional talent in art. In this case the duration of studies is based on the needs of each student.

Additional entry requirements

All candidates are evaluated separately by the Admissions Committee where a decision is made.

Fees and funding

Application Fees

Registration: €500
The registration fee is payable with the acceptance of a place on the course.
Yearly fees: €6500
The above amount is for full-time studies.
• The payment terms are agreed on a personal basis with the students and their parents.
• Part-time tuition fees will be calculated according to each student’s attendance and will be paid monthly.

10% discount on tuition fees:

– To students with Cypriot nationality, from large families with at least 4 children
– To students part of the same family, regardless of nationality
– To students who are a legally married couple, regardless of nationality – In any other case, the school decides necessary.

Additional Fee information

Aigaia School of Art and Design has decided to establish a scholarship program, in memory of the honorary Director of the Academic Staff of Aigaia school of art & design, Dr Costas Hadjistefanou.

The scholarship consists of the full coverage of the fees and is provided for one academic year, with the possibility of renewing for the following years of study. The scholarship is offered only to Greek Cypriots, students of Aigaia School, under strict academic and socio-economic criteria.

His contribution to Education and Culture and generally to our society in Cyprus is invaluable. Profoundly knowledgeable of the Greek language, Culture and Education, he devoted his life to it. His ongoing purpose was to establish the Greek language and Education in Cyprus, offering himself completely and truly, with unlimited time and effort, educating and cultivating the new generation, offering knowledge from his rich spiritual world. In this context and spirit, Costas Hadjistefanou supported the efforts and contributed actively to the creation of Aigaia School of Art and Design based on a solid pedagogical and healthy academic basis.
