Dorita Markantoni

Educator, Author, Lecturer on School Bullying Issues

Biography

Dorita Markantoni has attended seminars in Cyprus and abroad, extensively engaging with the social phenomenon of school bullying. She has participated in research and delivered numerous lectures on the subject at national, international, and pan-Cyprian conferences.

Her book, "School Bullying – From Myths to Reality," addresses parents, educators, and anyone interested in this social phenomenon. The book was a nominee for the International Public Awards and has been approved for inclusion in educational libraries, both at the primary and secondary school levels nationwide, as well as in the library of the Pedagogical Institute.

Dorita has received recognition at the national level for her work on School Bullying at the Education Leaders Awards 2020. She has also delved into studying Workplace Bullying (Mobbing) and essential topics such as children's sexual education and mental empowerment, on which she has given lectures.

She has been invited several times by the Mass Media of Cyprus and Greece to discuss Bullying as a social phenomenon, as well as other topics related to children. Dorita has contributed articles to Cypriot and Greek newspapers and online platforms.

She represented Cyprus in a European Training of the Trainers seminar on Hate Speech in Social Media. She holds a certification as a trainer for this specific social phenomenon.

Recently, she represented Cyprus at a European conference in Brussels on the same social phenomenon.

Nicoletta Sofokleous

Professional Biography

Nicoletta successfully completed her undergraduate studies in the renowned Psychology program (BSc) at Swansea University in the United Kingdom. She later pursued postgraduate studies with a specialization in School Counseling and Guidance (MSc) at the University of Cyprus.

Her master's thesis focused on the study of behavior and school interventions for children with Autism, providing a comprehensive analysis of holistic management and coping within the spectrum.

In her role as Academic and Career Guidance Counselor at UAGC, Nicoletta conducts personalized counseling sessions for students of all ages and parents. She also leads the study and presentation of educational seminars at all levels, either in-person or online, for students, parents, and educators.

Themes of seminars where she served as the main speaker include:

- Transition from Kindergarten to Elementary School
- Transition from Middle School to High School: Orientation Choices and High School Directions
- National Exams: Study Planning and Completion of Application Forms
- Transition from Kindergarten to Elementary School: Practical Approaches and Interventions by Educators from both sectors
- School Management and Handling of Children with ADHD and Autism in combination with practices for mainstream educators.

1. What is School Bullying, and what are its main characteristics? How can I identify and recognize it as a social phenomenon?
2. How does bullying behavior differ from conflict? How can I know if my child is a victim of bullying or not?
3. What are the bullying rates in Cyprus? Do they fall within the broader statistics of Europe? How serious is this phenomenon, and do research studies reveal the real problem?
4. What are the types of bullying? Are there types that are "silent"? What knowledge do I need to identify them, and what are their main characteristics?
5. Roles in Bullying. Let's get to know the protagonists of bullying behaviors. What is their profile?

The critical role of the Educational Counselor in recognizing incidents of School Bullying and the importance of communication with parents.

6. How can the Educational Counselor perceive, address, and support the children? The necessity of open communication with parents.

Program Details

The seminar "School Bullying" will be conducted in three sessions, each lasting 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Each session is considered independent and is not connected to the next. For a comprehensive training on school bullying, it is recommended to attend all three.

A certificate of attendance will be provided, indicating the empowerment seminars for your CV and integration into the Individual Educational Plan.

If you choose to attend all three sessions, a certificate of attendance - diploma will be issued, certifying a complete 6-hour training.

2nd seminar: Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 18:30.

3rd seminar: Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 18:30.
