The Faculty of Medical Sciences (FMS) of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn was established on July 17, 2007. The following academic year, the faculty continued its nursing studies, previously conducted at the Faculty of Biology. They began preparations for an MD program in the School of Medicine and MSc studies in the Nursing School.
The faculty's Medicine School Curriculum Committee developed a program of studies with a focus on modern teaching methods and attracting senior researchers from across the country.  Simultaneously, efforts were made to take over the 103rd Military Hospital from the Ministry of National Defense. Additionally, the faculty signed agreements with various institutions, including the
  1. Regional Hospital,
  2. Regional Children's Hospital,
  3. Independent Public Group of Tuberculosis and Pulmonary Diseases in Olsztyn, and the
  4. Provincial Hospital for the Rehabilitation of Children in America near Olsztynek.
  5. The Director of the Cancer Center.
On October 1, 2008, the School of Medicine welcomed its charter class, commencing their studies in modern classrooms within various departments. The university also invested in renovating its facilities and equipping them for the newly established departments. The Faculty of Medical Sciences became a main user of the well-equipped Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory, which was opened in May 2010 in collaboration with the Department of Biology.
In a significant development on September 1, 2017, the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the University of Warmia and Mazury underwent a division into two distinct faculties: the School of Medicine and the Faculty of Health Sciences. The School of Medicine continued its commitment to educating future doctors, offering a comprehensive program that prepares students for their medical careers. Meanwhile, the Faculty of Health Sciences was responsible for training students in specialized fields such as Emergency Rescue, Midwifery, Nursing, and Nutrition. This division allows each faculty to focus on specific areas of expertise, providing students with tailored education and resources to excel in their chosen healthcare disciplines. It represents a strategic step towards enhanced specialization and efficiency in medical education, ensuring students receive the dedicated attention and training necessary for success.
