Based on Alfred Hitchcock's film "Rear Window"
Premiere: Friday, October 13, 2023, at 8:30 PM

"The Hitchcock Effect" is inspired by John Michael Hayes' "Rear Window" and Alfred Hitchcock's cinematic masterpiece, exploring themes of continuous invasion of privacy, urban isolation, social disconnection, and the thin line between reality and perception. Through the character of a wheelchair-bound photographer who spends his days spying on his neighbors, Hitchcock raises important questions about our obsession with observing others and the dangers of unbridled curiosity.
In today's world, with the rise of social media, reality TV, and technological advances, our addiction to watching others' lives through screens and our unquestioning acceptance of what we perceive as real have taken worrying dimensions. In an era of fake news, "The Hitchcock Effect" carries a crucial message: we must remain vigilant to question what we think we know and seek the truth.
The adaptation of the film transports us to the first lockdown of the 2020 pandemic, set in Nicosia. The city streets are eerily silent due to the harsh and inhumane quarantine brought about by the coronavirus. Irene, an award-winning and fearless war zone photographer, is designated as a close contact and is forced to lock herself in her apartment for a week. Dependent on social media and technology to follow both global events and the lives of friends and colleagues, Irene does something she never thought she would do: she looks out of her apartment window. What she discovers is an entire world outside her window filled with intriguing characters and... a mystery.
With her knowledge, assistance from the outside world, and the blessings of technology, Irene attempts to unravel this mystery while facing the dilemmas we all encountered during the "lost" years of 2020 and 2021. Do you cook, or do you simply order in? Do you break quarantine rules to see what you desire with your own eyes, or do you trust the eyes and phones of others? Do you rely on others out there, or do you settle for what you have within your four walls?
Time is ticking in reverse, the video conference has already started. Tick, tock, tick, tock.

In this performance by the Satirical Theatre, which will have a highly interactive character, technology and theater will coexist, offering an experience that will be different with each viewing. The audience will be able to intervene and "write" the story unfolding on stage by voting through their mobile phones.
Software development company Pixel Actions will develop the virtual chat room of the protagonist, allowing the audience to interact with her.
The goal is to provide an unforgettable immersive theater experience, where the audience will "immerse" themselves in the play, thus breaking the fourth wall.
